Statement of the Board Chair

January 13, 2026

As Chair of the Pocono Township Board of Commissioners, I am responding to concerns arising from comments made during a recent public meeting.

The Township relies on the service of its volunteers, including members of the Planning Commission, who contribute their time and expertise in good faith to serve the community. Public accusations directed at a volunteer during a Township meeting are serious in nature and are inconsistent with the respectful and professional environment the Board is obligated to maintain.

While individual commissioners speak only for themselves unless authorized by formal action of the Board, the Board of Commissioners expects all members to adhere to established standards of decorum, professionalism, and ethical responsibility. Township meetings are not an appropriate forum for personal allegations against individuals, particularly those serving the Township in a volunteer capacity.

The Board will not tolerate conduct that undermines public trust, discourages volunteer service, or detracts from the orderly and respectful conduct of public business. Concerns regarding commissioner conduct will be addressed through appropriate internal processes consistent with Township procedures and applicable law.

The Board remains committed to responsible governance, transparency, and ensuring that all individuals who participate in Township affairs are treated with dignity and respect.

Respectfully,

Ellen D. Gnandt

Chair, Pocono Township Board of Commissioners
