Strong thunderstorms have affected Pocono Township greatly this weekend. At this time there are approximately 2,100 PPL customers in Pocono Township without power. In addition to the power outage, there are also multiple road closures throughout the township at this time. Township officials have been in contact with PPL representatives who are working around the clock to get power restored to the area. PPL is estimating power to be restored by Wednesday July 8th at 11:00pm. Some customers may have power restored prior to that time. Roads are being opened as utility crews work to clear trees and debris to allow the electric contractors access to restore power to the area. If you come across a road closure, we ask that you do not remove the cones or barriers and drive through. This is putting you and utility crews in danger. PPL has announced that they will be reimbursing customers who have to purchase water and ice during the power outage. They will reimburse for three gallons of water and three 10-pound bags of ice for each day of the event. To request reimbursement, mail itemized receipts, along with your account number to: PPL Ice and Water Program, 827 Hausman Road, Allentown, PA 18104 At this time, our Pocono Township meeting room at 205 Old Mill Road is open until 8 PM. Residents may come fill water bottles, charge their phone, or use the restroom. We also have water and snacks available. Note: The meeting room will open again Monday morning at 8 am for residents. Also, there is a cooling center open at the Pocono Summit Volunteer Fire Company for those in need. The address for their facility is 5335 Hummingbird Dr, Pocono Summit, PA 18346. The center will be open 24 hours a day through Tuesday 7/7/2026. If you or someone in your home is in any kind of distress, call 9-1-1 immediately for assistance.
