Alternate Zoning Hearing Board Members Needed
Pocono Township is in need of individuals willing to serve as alternate members to the three-member Zoning Hearing Board.
Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest and resume/qualifications to [email protected]. Interviews with the Board of Commissioners will occur Monday, July 6, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

If a zoning hearing is scheduled and a member of the Zoning Hearing Board is unavailable to attend, alternate members would serve in their stead.

The only requirement is that a zoning hearing board member or alternate member be a resident of Pocono Township.

WHAT DOES THE ZONING HEARING BOARD DO?
The primary purpose of a zoning hearing board is to help assure fair and equitable application and administration of the zoning ordinance. The zoning hearing board hears appeals from the zoning officer’s determinations and grants relief from the literal enforcement of the zoning ordinance in certain hardship situations by means of a variance. The right to appeal for relief is an important step in ensuring that due process is followed when restricting use of private property for a predetermined public good. The zoning hearing board also hears applications for special use and challenges to the substantive validity of ordinances.
